I’m an experienced freelance Certified Copy Editor and Proofreader and am very passionate about my work. A perfectionist by nature, discovering errors has always come naturally to me. In fact, recognizing mistakes in road signs, restaurant menus, billboards, or newspapers often drives my family and friends crazy! Inaccuracies seem to flash at me like a neon sign.
My services include both copy editing and proofreading. Most definitions of copy editing involve improving sentence structure, formatting, accuracy, making sure there are no inconsistencies or redundancies, and that the story line flows well. Proofreading encompasses catching surface problems with the content, such as incorrect grammar, punctuation, and spelling. I also do basic fact-checking.
With today’s technology making it possible to submit, edit, and return work via email as a Word attachment, the relationship between editor and client becomes much closer. With three different methods of editing that I offer, authors may choose the technique they prefer.
I utilize the Chicago Manual of Style and Merriam-Webster's Dictionary and Thesaurus as my reference guides.
I will be more than happy to provide a five-page sample edit upon request.
My objective is to polish your work to ensure that it is PUBLISHING READY, and I have proven results to reflect that. So let your creative juices flow, and let me free you to do what you do best—write!

“I found Joyce to be an exceptional copy editor and proofreader who not only caught a myriad of routine issues, she also went back to my first novel to ensure consistency within the second novel. Clearly, she goes above and beyond, and her business model is one manuscript at a time—you have her entire focus when she’s editing your work. I highly recommend that you avail yourself of Joyce’s dedication, superb attention to detail, and extraordinary talent for your copy editing and proofing needs. You won’t regret it!”
